FAQ

Q: Where do you rescue the pets in your care from?

A: We assist pets in Bartow County. Most come from owner surrenders, strays that have passed the mandatory stray hold with the person who helped them. We sometimes help Bartow Animal Control and Etowah Valley who works with rescues, but we prefer to focus on keeping the pets out of Animal Control to begin with.

Q: What can I do if I find a dog or cat that needs assistance?
A: First of all, thank you for helping the animal.

  1. Be sure to offer it water and try to get a leash on it (dog) if possible.
  2. The pet needs to be checked for a microchip. Most Veterinarians will do it and Bogeys has a reader as well.
  3. If you can keep the animal contained and safe, you must hold it for the mandatory stray hold before Bogeys can get involved The hold at AC is 3 days, but we like to give the animal 5 days.
  4. During this period you must be able to show that you attempted to find the owner. Contact us. If we have room in our rescue, we will take the animal.
  5. If we do not have room, you will need to get on AC’s waiting list to take the pet. If you can keep the animal, you could become a foster with us until we find it a permanent home.

Q: What does it mean to be a foster?

A: it is like letting a friend stay with you until they find a home or get their life together. We take care of the expenses as much as you need us to. Some fosters need us to pay for everything, while some fosters buy their own food and have supplies. All medical, supplies, and training are covered.

Q: Are any of you paid?

A: WE WISH! No really, we are all volunteers right now. We hope to get to a point where we will be big enough to have salaried jobs and run a facility, but we are not there yet. We all have jobs and do what we can to help our neighbors.

Q: How are you funded?

A: We rely on the generosity and kindness of people like you, animal lovers, and we’re working hard to secure sponsors if you or someone you know would like to help we would be honored to have you. We are still too new to be competitive with securing a grant but all the good we are doing should make it happen in the future.

Q: Where are the pets kept?

A: We are what is called Foster Based. So all the pets live in the homes of those who foster for us.

Q: How do I meet a pet?

A: Contact us and we will set up a meet and greet. If the foster cannot meet you, one of our other volunteers will.

Q: How do I become a foster?

A: Go to our home page and you will see buttons for Fostering a Dog and Fostering a Cat.

Q: What happens if the pet that I have from you is not working out?

A: Once a Bogeys Buddy, always a Bogeys Buddy. We will work with you to see if we can solve the problem in a timely manner. It is never a good situation if there are problems. We give you plenty of resources, tips, and best practices and we are a text or call away for advice. Always remember that we have to give the pet some grace. They may be scared, and insecure or they may have been previously abused. We have seen very few outcomes that resulted in the removal of the pet.

We have met all kinds of personalities and usually, it can be handled. Here are some resources that you might need.
