A Week of Hope: Stories of a Community that Care

14 New Lives, 3 Miracles, and How You Can Be a Hero This Winter

As the temperatures in Bartow County have plummeted, things inside Bogey’s Buddies have been anything but quiet. This week has been a whirlwind of urgent calls, new beginnings, and powerful reminders of why we do what we do. It’s been a week that perfectly captures the beautiful, chaotic, and deeply rewarding world of animal rescue.

And Then There Were 14 More…

It started with a litter of 6 tiny kittens, vulnerable and in need of immediate care. Seemingly overnight, our rescue family grew by six tiny, wiggling bodies, each one deserving of a warm bed and a bright future. Just as we were settling them into loving foster homes, another call came. This time, it was from the community. Eight tiny puppies needed to get out of the cold; they were counting on us.

In the span of just a few days, our intake count jumped by fourteen. Fourteen new lives, fourteen new promises to keep. Saying “yes” to these puppies and kittens was not a decision we made lightly; it was an act of faith. Faith in our incredible team, and most importantly, faith in you, our community.

The Miracles That Keep Us Going

On the days when the challenges feel overwhelming, we are reminded of the miracles that your support makes possible. This week, we celebrated three of them.

First, there are Hadley and Harper. These two sisters came to us scared and shy, one on death’s doorstep, but after weeks of patience and love in their foster home, they have blossomed into confident, happy girls who are almost ready for their forever family. Their journey is a testament to the power of a safe and loving environment.

Then there is Chance. When Chance first came to us, he was a shell of a dog: sad, fearful, and shut down. He had to be carried out of Animal Control. It was hard to see the light in his eyes. But today, Chance is a different dog. He is happy and his tail hasn’t stopped wagging. His transformation is a powerful, visible reminder that with a little bit of love and some patience, a broken spirit can be healed. Seeing him play, trust, and love is the greatest reward we could ever ask for.

These stories, from the fourteen new arrivals to the three miracles, are the heartbeat of our mission. They are why we answer the phone, why we drive the long miles, and why we believe so deeply in second chances.

How You Can Be a Hero This Winter

As the cold weather continues, our work becomes even more critical. The animals on the street are more vulnerable than ever, and every pet deserves to be safe and warm. You can be a hero not just for our rescue animals, but for the pets in your own life and neighborhood.

Here are some essential tips for keeping your animals safe during these frigid temperatures:

1. If It’s Too Cold for You, It’s Too Cold for Them. This is the golden rule. Dogs and cats are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia, just like humans. Keep walks short and bring all pets indoors.

2. Tap Your Hood. Community cats often seek shelter from the cold in the warmth of car engines. Before you start your car, bang loudly on the hood a few times to give any hiding animals a chance to escape.

3. Paw Care is Key. Wipe your pet’s paws after every walk to remove ice, salt, and chemical de-icers, which can be toxic if licked. Check for cracks or redness.

4. Provide a Cozy Retreat. Make sure your pet has a warm, soft bed away from drafts. For outdoor animals you care for, ensure their shelter is dry, insulated, and protected from the wind.

5. Check Water Bowls. Water can freeze quickly in cold temperatures. If you have outdoor water bowls for community animals or your own pets, check them frequently to ensure they haven’t turned into a block of ice.

We Can’t Do It Without You

From the fourteen new lives now safe in our care to the countless others still out there, our ability to act depends on you. Every foster home that opens, every dollar that is donated, and every share on social media allows us to continue our life-saving work.

Thank you for being the warmth in a cold week. Thank you for being the hope for animals in need.
